max effort/failure training, in low volume
I recently watched a Youtube video by my new exercise Mentor.
His channel is jackhwoods
My physical condition has gone through many stages.
I was an avid skier and spent my youth skiing and waiting for ski season. I raced downhill my last couple of years in high school but I did not have the skill or experience to excell.
I became an avid cyclist and eventually started mountain bike racing. I did very well while I had a group to train with. When my 3+ man group broke up (one got married, one moved away), my training suffered and I quit racing.
I had never built my upper body. I bought a Bowflex as they advertise 20 minutes 3 times a week and you will change your body. I worked on it off and on for a couple of years. It was great however I kept hurting my shoulders. I did improve my upper body strength, the size of my arms and chest.
I sprained my knee badly a couple of years ago and since then I have mainly been a couch potato watching all kinds of Youtube videos.
Jack h Woods promotes a very simple plan of maximum overload for five minutes a day with a 5 year plan. Check out this video
When I was in school the theory was that deep knee bends beyond 90 degrees were bad for you. As I understand it now that is considered stupid. The ability to squat is a goal I am now working on a long with rebuilding strong legs.
